Centerback Chard Marshall’s goal in the 25th minute gave the Sounders the win that elevated the team above the redline for the first time this season. Sensing danger the Sounders pushed forward and their diligence paid off in the 25th minute when Chad Marshall headed home an Adreas Ivanschitz header to give the home side the 1-0 lead they never relinquished.
” Obviously Sunday was an emotional game, a huge win for us , I do’t think tonight was our best soccer,” Marshall said after the game. ” We were able to grind it out and get a result and a huge three points late in the season.
The Sounders had several chances in the second half but were unable to capitalize and needed a diving save by Stefan Frei in the 90th minute to preserve the win. The Sounders record under interim head coach Brian Schemtzer stands at six wins, one loss and one tie.
