The only thing that is able to stop Major League Soccer’s hottest is the FIFA mandated International break. The October 3rd to October 11th friendly and World Cup qualifying matches are being played directly after the Seattle Sounders impressive 2-1 comeback win over Cascadia Rivals Vancouver Whitecaps on October 2nd in Vancouver.
It was the Sounders fourth consecutive victory and improved the team’s record to (7-1-3) under interim coach Brian Schmetzer. The lifelong Sounder leftenant was named interim head coach on July 26th a day after the team parted ways with Sigi Schmid, the organizations only coach since it joined MLS in 2009.
The Sounders torrid climb up the standings now finds them in fifth place the Western Conference. An incredible feat considering the team was floundering in 8th place in the Western Conference before Schmetzer’s Houdini act.
The Sounders magic show will return on October 12th when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo at Century LinkField. Before then, five Sounders will need to fulfill their International obligations to, Forward Jordan Morris ( U.S.), Midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro ( Uruguay), Joevin Jones ( Tridinda Tobago), Oniel Fisher ( Jamaica), and Damion Lowe (Jamaica).
