The Seattle Seahawks (8-3-1 )won the battle but lost the war on Sunday when they trounced the the Carolina Panthers 40-7 Sunday night at CenturyLink Field but lost the war when Free Safety and defensive anchor Earl Thomas suffered a seasoning ending leg injury. Here is what head coach Pete Carrol had to say during his weekly press briefing.
ON FACING THE GREEN BAY PACKERS
The 6-6 Packers have won their last two games after losing the previous four.
(Opening) “This is a really exciting matchup for us. We’ve had great matchups over the years with the Pack [Packers] and going back there with the conditions and stuff, it’s going to be a really fun football outing. We’re going to take advantage to the fact that our weather is pretty similar to theirs and get out when we can here when it makes sense for us, and we’ll get ready for a team that’s really hitting it. They’ve really turned their season around and they’re fired up about it and looking good. They’ve had a couple great games in a row, looking sharp and we can see all the best, when we see these guys we only see the best that they’ve ever had because we can’t see it any other way. Aaron [Rodgers] is doing it, Jordy [Nelson] is doing it and it just looks like the Packers teams that we’ve seen. Our guys are fired up about it and looking forward to a good matchup.”
ON THE EARL THOMAS INJURY
(On Earl Thomas’ long term future) “This is an injury that you recover from, it just takes a long time. I don’t think it’s a big question if he’ll ever make it back, he’ll be okay. We just have to take the time to do it. This is not weeks, this is months on this one, so it does take a long time. At this point, he has that time. We’ll be every optimistic about him being able to get back.”
CARROLL WAS ASKED WETHER STEVE TERRELL,THOMAS DESIGNATED REPLACEMENT.
“Sure. I’m not going to jump down his throat right now, he’s well prepared. He’s been working in our system for a long time. I was an old DB coach for a lot of years, so it’s always been something that I stay close to and like watching and pay attention to and talk to the guys, kind of regularly on the side. But he’s got it, he’s looked really good when he’s played, so hopefully he’ll just continue to get better and more confident and flow with the guys better as we stay together out there.”
ON THE PLAY OF KAM CHANCELLOR SINCE HIS RETURN FROM INJURY
“He’s been huge. As we documented about his leadership, he still led us when he’s off the field, but it’s much more powerful when you’re making the plays and making the hits and he’s been a significant factor. He looks to be at his best. He looks like this is the best he’s ever been. He looks the quickest, he’s healthy, he’s been just as dynamic with the hits and the plays he’s made. He just seems to be like all of that is firing on a great cylinder right now and he’s doing well. It’s great to see.
