What a night to remember for the Wilson Rams (1-6) against their rival Stadium High (4-3). Wilson was celebrating many things on this chill Friday night home matchup in the Stadium Bowl. The student body was celebrating homecoming, their 1997 twenty-year class reunion, and eventually their first win of the season!
The win looked improbable early for Wilson after kicking the ball off to Stadium to start the game. Stadium lead by senior quarterback #1 Hunter Wendling would find the end zone early with an 82-yard touchdown pass to #5 Camron Rogers. After two early turnovers by both teams, Stadium would find the end zone again behind Wendling this time with his legs for a 23-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. Running back #3 Nazje Briscoe would also help pile on the points for Stadium with a pair of touchdown runs with his longest going for 80 yards to open the second quarter.
Wilson kicker #12 Paul Hurt would come up big in this game with a pair of early field goals from 45 and 36 yards. Some good power running behind #32 Ricky Muliufi who would help setup Wilson’s dual quarterback tandem #6 Willie Hamilton and #7 Jack Hanisch for some big plays through the air. Most notable pass play was Hanisch’s 94-yard touchdown pass to Hamilton late in the third quarter to bring the score to 26-21. This play would eventually give Wilson its first lead of the game bringing the homecoming crowd to its feet in a roar! Hanisch and Hamilton would finish with a pair of touchdowns each. The lead would change two more times in this intense rivalry game, before Wilson would finally seal the game with a late interception on Stadiums go ahead final drive. Wilson, despite the 21-3 early deficit found a way to win its first game of the season on homecoming night verse rival Stadium 33-29!
