Freshman sensation Dejounte Murray dropped a career high 34 points and snagged 11 rebounds in leading the Washington Huskies (15-7,7-3) to a bounce back win over the Arizona State Sun Devils (12-11,2-8) Wednesday night at the American Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The hard-fought win over the Sun Devils in front of 6,533 screaming purple and gold clad fans propelled the dogs to second place in the race for the Pac 12 title. The 16th Oregon Ducks(18-4,7-2) are the leaders of the Pac with the young Huskies snipping at their heels.
Wednesday nights come from behind win was a much needed tonic for the Huskies who were coming off a 98 to 88 loss the USC Trojans two days after beating the UCLA Bruins in dramatic fashion. The one thing that can be expected of this years Huskies is the unexpected.
How else can you explain Andrew Andrews missing his first 11 shots of the game and then hitting his first field goal of the game, a three pointer of all things in OT to give Washington a 87-80 lead they never relinquished. Andrews finished the game with 13 points after going 2-13 from the field. Andrews did make 8 of 11 free throws. Andrews super hero act in OT was precipitated by Murray getting his fifth foul 90 minutes into overtime.
“I said earlier on in the year, you’re not going to be able to stop both of us. That’s just not going to happen,” Andrews said after the game . “Either I’m going to have 30 or (Murray’s) going to have 30. Once he gets going, I just keep running the same play to be honest.”
Washington will take on the 23rd ranked Arizona Wildcats (18-5, 6-4) Saturday 1:30pm at Hec Edmundson Pavilion and you guess is as good as mine as to which Husky team will show up.
