“We are thrilled to join Folklife this year to celebrate the power of the human voice and expression,” said Norm Hubbard, SCCA’s executive vice president. “At SCCA, our patients are at the center of our work and mission. It is our partnership with patients and families, along with our world-class research and care that ensures our stellar outcomes for our neighbors, living here in the Northwest.”
“We celebrate our patients and our community, and are thrilled to support a long-standing tradition here of celebrating the arts from and in the Northwest,” he said.
Northwest Folklife is a year-round nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for all people to appreciate, share, and participate in the evolving traditions of the Pacific Northwest. Every year since 1972, Northwest Folklife has presented the Northwest Folklife Festival over Memorial Day Weekend at Seattle Center. “The Festival honors and celebrates the musical and cultural traditions that make our region great and provides opportunities for the public to connect with the many diverse cultures that make up the Northwest through dance, song, and art,” Northwest Folklife executive director Rob Townsend comments. “We’re particularly pleased with our new partnership with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). Our constituents are the same – everyone in our region. SCCA’s support and collaboration with us will provide an excellent opportunity for awareness and education among all community groups we both serve.”
Every year, Northwest Folklife engages a Northwest community to showcase during the year leading up to the annual Northwest Folklife Festival. This is called the ‘Cultural Focus’ and it allows Folklife to connect more in-depth with the people served and empower their artistic expressions and cultural traditions. The 2016 Cultural Focus is “The Power of the Human Voice through Song,” and the public can look forward to a mélange of vocal performances ranging from Doo-Wop and Gospel, to Choral, Throat singing, and much, much more.
