Mallett Capital and Insurance Agency is a Michigan based company headed by its President, Leon Mallett.  Mallett, a Seattle native, moved to Michigan for college shortly after his graduation from Franklin High School in Seattle.  After completing college, Mallett started his professional career in Management, went on to a 5 year stint working in Human Resources prior to joining the mortgage industry where he has been the last 4 years.  On multiple occasions, Mallett heard back from clients he completed mortgages for asking for assistance to refinance in order to lower their monthly payment after their spouses had passed away.  Due to Federal guidelines, a lot of the widows couldn’t qualify for a refinance without their spouse.

This frustrated Leon to the point he wanted to make sure his clients weren’t put in this situation and decided to start up a financial consulting and insurance business specializing in Mortgage Protection.

Black Home Ownership Report Issued With Cautious Optimism

September 27, 2017 by NWFacts Leave a Comment

National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) issues the 2017 State of Housing in Black America report with a view to push for a more equitable mortgage lending landscape. African Americans are returning to the homebuying marketplace in numbers greater than projected a year ago by the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB).  The 2017 State of Housing in Black America (SHIBA) report, found that Black home ownership rose from its near 50-year low of 41.3 percent in the third quarter of 2016 to above 42 percent in the first two quarters of 2017, according to Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data. ”While economic recovery is still out of reach for far too many Black Americans, NAREB sees a break in the storm.  Black consumers are slowly regaining confidence in the marketplace, but institutional obstacles remain,” said Jeffrey Hicks, President of NAREB formed in 1947 to ensure equal and fair access by Black Americans to own homes.  Blacks remain on the sidelines of the recovery of the nation’s cities, the report states. The forces that are fueling the rebirth of the cities have exacerbated rather than closed the racial wealth gap, the report also finds.

What is evolving is a stubborn form of economic segregation that will keep the gap in homeownership wide and daunting. NAREB is determined to reverse this trend. Unless federal housing policy is modified to encourage, instead of discourage lending to Blacks, there will be an “overwhelming lack of access to affordable credit as well as to more effectively manage the large stock of distressed assets to promote homeownership, particularly in communities that have historically lacked adequate homeownership opportunities,” according to the report.

The bright signs reflect modifications in federal policy, NAREB noted. These changes include creation of new mortgage products by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; capping of the Loan Level Price Adjustment (LLPA) fees for these new mortgages; changing required debt-to-income ratios from 45 to 50 percent, and the GSEs’ incorporation of trended data in their underwriting platforms.

Washington’s DREAMers face fast deadline for renewals

Washington’s DREAMers face fast deadline for renewals new initiative will help pay application fees

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, center, poses for a photo with a group of students, after he signed into law a measure that expands state financial aid to students living illegally in the country

Gov. Jay Inslee announced that Washington state DREAMers will soon have assistance in paying the $495 application fee to apply for a two-year extension of their status in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Advocates recommend DREAMers mail their applications no later than October 3, 2017 to make sure they are received by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services by the October 5 deadline.

“Nearly 18,000 DREAMers call Washington state home, and the cruel actions of the Trump Administration threatens the ability of these aspiring young men and women to go to school or work,” Inslee said. “This program will help lessen the financial impact on the DREAmers and their families.”

The application fee for DREAMers will be covered by a private donation and administered through the Mission Asset Fund (MAF) in San Francisco.

No state funds are being used for the application fees. With the anonymous, private donation of $125,000, approximately 250 Washington residents will be eligible for DACA application fee scholarships.

Washington state has formed a DACA Renewal Coalition to implement the application fee donation program. The leading organizations of the Coalition will be the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP), a legal services provider; the Washington Dream Act Coalition, a grassroots youth-led movement; the Mission Asset Fund (MAF), an organization that is currently providing scholarship funds to DACA recipients; and the state’s Office of Refugees and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA).

Earlier this month, Inslee wrote an op-ed on the repeal of DACA.  For more information or to apply for the scholarship, visit http://www.lc4daca.org.

Black Lives Matter in education. Black Lives Matter in our economic system. To The Bride & Groom

Congratulations Theodore & Bonita Jones

Marriage is not just an auspicious bond.

It is a journey that lasts till eternity.
Right at the beginning of the journey,
here’s wishing that both of you have
a memorable and joyful ride
Congratulations
Theodore & Bonita Jones

As we witness two hearts unite as one we pray your unity will always remain strong, letting the ove that bind you to strengthen over time.
Many warm wishes on your future TOGETHER

Now more than ever, seniors are getting married or starting a new relationship later in life. While the idea may seem new to you, take a glance around your social circle. There’s probably a couple who got together in their later years among your friends.

And while you never anticipated this happening, you’re ready to start a life with Ted while honoring your late husband’s memory. Your children and grandchildren help his memory live on while welcoming in a new dad and grandfather.

But the second time around isn’t the same. You’re older, and what you want in life has changed. Many of the goals of a first marriage such as buying a house, working a new job, and having children, are no longer goals in a second marriage. Instead, you’re looking for someone to settle into retirement with, to share travel destinations with you, and to be your bridge or dance partner.
You deserve to be happy and to enjoy your life beyond your golden years.
To be able to share your life during the good and hard times with a man like Ted is a true blessing. To be able to fall I love with your childhood crush later in life,
I’m sure is still a dream come true. Bonita is such a beautiful, loving and caring person to have by your side. The magic and joy that I’ve witness being in your presents has only been a motivation of what the future has in store for me. The wedding hosted this past weekend (September 24 2017) by Theodore and Bonita Jones has came and gone, but the memories it created will remain forever. May the memories of joy, happiness, hope, and love we shared together remain fresh for all eternity.  Congratulations Ted & Bonita Jones

I was driving along 6ave. and pulled up to  6 Ave. Spring Fairy Festival.
Festival was created by Angela Wehnert, owner of Crescent Moon Gifts, a store of “Fantasy, Myth & Magick” located in Tacoma, WA.

Originally meant to be a fun party for her customers, the event was so well attended and loved that it grew to become an annual festival!

The Spring Fairy Festival is a celebration of art, music, performance and community. Designed  to let people of all ages come together to express and enjoy one another’s creativity.  Since it’s inception in 2008 the festival had grown to over 1,500 people in attendance by 2010, and thus required a larger venue than where it was once held. Originally held at Freighthouse Square in Tacoma, WA the event moved to Green River Community College, Auburn, WA in 2011.

Although GRCC was a beautiful and spacious venue, it was been decided to bring the event back to the Tacoma area to come full circle.

The annual attendance of 4,000+ we are pleased to host this outside around our beautiful store, and as of 2015 we have made it a FREE event!

We thank you for your continued support as we continue to grow, without you there is no event- Many fairy blessings to our tribe.

This event is organized by volunteers, your generous donations are greatly appreciated to keep this event in our community for years to come!
