On Monday December 11, 2017, Devaney Martin (Block, White) age 89, peacefully drifted away in her sleep. Although tired, her spirit was full of appreciation when the Lord called on her. She lived a long healthy life, and survived several years beyond the experts’ expectations. Devaney was born to Alonzo and Bertie Block (Daniel) in Cominto, Arkansas on May 8, 1928. She was the third of eight children, six
of whom that she’s now able to join in heaven: Allie Mae Woods, Lillie James, Maxine Stanley, Althea Matthews, Alonzo Block Jr., and Henry Block.
Just 5 days after Devaney’s passing her sister, Lillie, also went home to the Lord.
Devaney leaves only her youngest sister, Katherine Franklin (Richard) of Detroit,
Michigan, as the lone sibling to cherish her memory. Together, Lillie and Devaney will join those who passed before them.
Devaney had six children, losing her eldest Rufus Martin August 3, 2000. Her
children, Margaret (Charlie Paige), Freddie, Linda, David (Margita), and Charles Jr., will lovingly remember “Mama.” Likewise her twelve grandchildren will deeply miss “Grandma,” along with her twelve great grandchildren. Indeed her long time friends Mattie and Locile will fondly remember “DeDe.” She was accepting to each and every one of us. With her quiet, yet, affirmative gestures, she served as a consistently strong and courageous role model to us all. She never turned her back on anyone, and always gave with an open heart. Devaney’s presence will always be here with us, and we’ve gained a guardian angel that will protect and look over us. We love you, and thank you for being such a monumental part of our lives!
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2018
at Evergreen Washelli: 1111 Aurora Avenue North Seattle, WA 98133.
